Retreats
We offer a range of Retreats each year through Roy’s Retreat. Included are a number of One Day Retreats. We encourage spiritual seekers to take time out four times a year to be quiet and still with God. The ‘Praying with the Mystics’ One Day Retreats are especially designed with this in mind. Each ‘Praying with the Mystics’ Retreats has a focus on one of the great mystics in the Christian tradition. So far we have focussed on Thomas Merton, Teresa of Avila, Francis of Assisi and Therese of Lisieux. In 2010 we will take as our focus another four mystics: Julian of Norwich, Meister Eckhart, Ignatius of Loyola and Catherine of Siena. The other One Day Retreats are called ‘Praying with the Prophets’. These days too are days of quiet prayer and reflection utilising the spiritual writings and teachings of contemporary Christian Prophets. In 2010 these One Day Retreats will focus on: Dorothy Day, Oscar Romero and Dom Helder Camara. The ‘Praying with the Prophets’ One Day Retreats will explore the relationship each of these prophets had with their God and look especially at how God called them to be in service in the world. Our ‘Desert Retreat’ are held in the magnificent Flinders Ranges in northern South Australia. We hire a beautiful shearer’s facility for this retreat on a property called Willow Springs. The ‘Desert Retreats’ are 8 day silent Retreats in the Ignatian tradition, with daily Spiritual Direction available for those who wish to journey with a guide. The ‘Prophet School’ Retreat is an annual Retreat held for those seeking to marry to ‘active’ and the ‘contemplative’ dimensions of the Gospel. Each year the ‘Prophet School’ is run over a weekend in Adelaide and both residential and non residential registrations are encouraged. The ‘Prophet School’ Retreats ask participants to make a 12 month commitment to intentionally praying with and reflecting on the prophetic call in the world. There is no prescribed commitment in this 12 months – it is up to each participant to determine how much, or how little they might be able to commit to. The 2009 and 2010 ‘Prophet Schools’ are being led by Jesuit Priest and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, John Dear. We also offer ‘Retreats in Daily Life’, where people who can’t get away to a residential retreat can undertake a retreat as part of their everyday life of work or parenting etc. We offer the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola as a one month ( 30 days ) ‘Retreat in Daily Life’. To do this you will need to be able to set aside 45 mins each day for a month to undertake the prayer exercises and meet weekly with a Spiritual Director (either in person or by phone).
